Established in 1984, Pasadena Conservatory of Music (PCM) is an independent, nonprofit, nationally-accredited community school dedicated to teaching, advocating, inspiring, and sharing through music study and performance. With a rich history spanning over 40 years, the Conservatory has built a reputation for excellence in music education, serving students of all ages and skill levels.
Our Mission
At PCM, we believe that music is a fundamental aspect of the human experience. Through music, we explore cultural differences and seek common ground, making us better listeners, musicians, educators, managers, advocates, and members of our community. Our mission is to educate, advocate, inspire, and share through music study and performance, fostering a community that respects and embraces diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Programs and Services
PCM offers a comprehensive curriculum that encompasses traditional and contemporary music for children and adults. Our programs include:
- Individual Lessons: One-on-one instruction with our highly accomplished faculty members
- Group Classes: Small-group classes focused on specific instruments, styles, or ensembles
- Ensemble Programs: Opportunities to perform with other students in various ensembles, such as chamber music, orchestras, and vocal groups
- Masterclasses: Intensive workshops led by guest artists and professionals in their fields
- Community Outreach: Extensive outreach programs that reach over 3,000 students in local schools and the broader community
Departments
At PCM, we have several departments that cater to different interests and age groups:
- Young Musicians: Offered to students aged 4 months to 18 years
- Adult Studies: Designed for adults of all ages and skill levels
- Chamber Music: Focusing on small-group performance and ensemble skills
- Guitar: Offering lessons and classes focused on various styles and genres
- Jazz: Exploring the art of jazz music through performance and improvisation
- Piano: Providing instruction in classical and contemporary styles
- Strings: Focusing on violin, viola, cello, and other stringed instruments
- Theory, History, and Composition: Exploring the technical and creative aspects of music
- Vocal Arts: Offering lessons and classes focused on vocal technique and performance
- Woodwinds, Brass, and Percussion: Providing instruction in various wind, brass, and percussion instruments
- World Music: Exploring traditional and contemporary music from around the world
