Where Music Meets Passion
I am Barbara Brown, a professional cellist and cello teacher with over 40 years of experience. I am excited to continue my journey as a cello teacher in my new home of Santa Fe, New Mexico. I offer private cello lessons in my home studio and online lessons via Zoom. I am passionate about teaching students of all ages and abilities, from beginners to advanced players.
The Joy of Playing the Cello
Playing the cello is not an easy task, but the rewards of mastering the instrument are immense. As a cello teacher, I strive to create a productive and enjoyable learning environment for my students. I believe that music is an integral part of a person's education and can greatly contribute to one's ability for self-expression. I am committed to providing well-prepared instruction to help each student reach their full potential.
Experienced Teacher
I have been teaching cello lessons for over 40 years, and I have experience teaching students of all ages and abilities. I know what it takes to help my students achieve their goals. I have also had the pleasure of seeing many of my students earn positions in youth orchestras, and some have even gone on to study music in university.
Accomplished Performer
As a professional freelance cellist, I have performed regularly with many of the top orchestras and ensembles throughout the Washington-Baltimore area. My extensive performing experience has given me a deep understanding of the cello and how to teach it effectively.
Tailored Instruction
I believe that each student requires individualized attention, and I tailor my teaching methods to the unique needs of each student. I do not use a one-size-fits-all approach. Instead, I use a variety of teaching methods to help each student reach their full potential.
Student Achievement
Many of my cello students have earned positions in youth orchestras, and some have gone on to study music in university. I am proud of my students' accomplishments, and I am committed to helping each student reach their full potential.
Rates and Scheduling
I think you'll find my rates reasonable for lessons with a highly experienced teacher. I am also flexible with scheduling policies and will work with you to find a time that fits your busy schedule.
Online Cello Lessons
I offer online cello lessons via Zoom for those who need it. Online lessons are a great option for those who cannot come to my studio for in-person lessons, such as those who live in remote areas, have mobility issues, or have busy schedules.
About Barbara
I have a solid educational background and extensive experience, both performing and teaching. I am dedicated to providing a quality education to my students. I hold a Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees in Cello Performance from the University of Maryland, where I studied with Evelyn Elsing, Oliver Edel, and David Soyer of the Guarneri String Quartet. I won first prize in the SAI graduate level competition and a Guarneri String Quartet fellowship, and studied with all the members of that distinguished quartet during my graduate studies.
I have over 40 years of experience teaching private cello lessons in my home studio and I am a well-respected and sought-after teacher and competition judge in the Washington, D.C. area. I kept a studio of at least 25 students, half of which were adults, and coached student chamber music groups and cello sections of both youth orchestras and adult amateur orchestras. Due to the Pandemic, I began teaching online via Zoom and have continued to do so for those who cannot come to my studio for in-person lessons.
