Welcome to Fur Peace Ranch, a sanctuary for music lovers nestled in the rolling foothills of southeast Ohio. In 1989, Jorma and Vanessa Kaukonen established the ranch with a mission to create a space where musicians could immerse themselves in music and emerge with renewed inspiration. Over the years, the ranch has grown to become a thriving community of music enthusiasts, offering a unique and immersive experience that goes beyond simply learning to play an instrument.

The Fur Peace Ranch Experience

When you arrive at the ranch on a Friday afternoon and leave on Monday morning, you will find yourself surrounded by a community of musicians who share your passion for music. With classes scheduled throughout the day, you will have ample opportunity to learn from some of the world's finest musicians, including Jorma Kaukonen, GE Smith, Arlo Guthrie, Jack Casady, Oteil Burbridge, Steve Kimock, Chris Smither, Warren Haynes, Jill Sobule, Patty Larkin, Happy Traum, Jonathan Edwards, Woody Mann, Tom Feldmann, Verlon Thompson, Tommy Emmanuel, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Bill Kirchen, Bobby Vega, Roy Book Binder, Michael Falzarano, Guy Clarke, Roy Rogers, Pat Donohue, and many more.

Each instructor at the ranch has their own unique teaching style, and Jorma's approach is no exception. He believes that teaching is about more than just imparting technical skills; it's about creating a language that reveals the deeper meaning behind the music. Jorma does not require his students to play his style of guitar, but he encourages them to rethink their approach to songs and to explore new ways of expressing themselves through music.

Beyond the Classroom

While the classes at Fur Peace Ranch are an essential part of the experience, there is much more to the ranch than just lessons. The Fur Peace Station Concert Hall, which seats 200 music lovers, hosts some of the world's finest musicians in an intimate setting every Saturday night during camp weekends and throughout the year. The fact that world-class musicians choose to perform at the ranch is a testament to its reputation as a hub of musical excellence.

In addition to the Concert Hall, the ranch has expanded to include the Company Store, which offers a range of musical instruments and accessories, and the Psylodelic Gallery, which showcases an eclectic collection of musical memorabilia. The ranch's facilities also include a kitchen, workshop building, library, and 17 cabins with a bathhouse, providing a comfortable and convenient home base for your musical adventures.
