Established in 1984, Mr. Natural's Music School has been offering high-quality, low-cost music lessons to the Bay Area for over three decades. Our mission is to bridge the gap between musicians who can only read music and those who can only play by ear. We achieve this by teaching music as an art form, using intervals to understand the musical scale and exploring musical patterns and songs learned by number.
Introducing Our Unique Approach
Our teaching methodology is centered around the concept of intervals, the distance between two notes. By using numbers 1-7 to discuss the musical scale, we can teach students to play, read, improvise, compose, and analyze music. This approach allows students to understand and apply musical patterns and songs learned by number to any key or instrument.
Personalized Lessons
Each student's lessons are tailor-made to their interests and goals. We ask students what they want to achieve musically and tailor our teaching to help them reach their goals. Whether they want to learn a new instrument, improve their skills, or explore a specific style of music, we cater to their unique needs.
Free Ear Training Exercises
To develop their skills, students participate in ear training exercises that help them hear rhythms, melodies, and chords. This enables them to write down the music they hear or compose their own music.
Cost-Effective and Convenient
We offer flexible scheduling options, with lessons available Monday through Friday from 4:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Our prices are competitive, with one half hour weekly lessons for four weeks costing $120 and full hour weekly lessons for four weeks costing $240.
Our Products and Resources
We offer a range of products and resources to support our students' progress, including music theory books, songbooks, and videos. Our YouTube channel features a range of teaching series and playlists, including lessons on hearing and writing rhythms, reading music by number, and harmony by the numbers.

Teaching Style and Professionalism
Reviewers Keegan R. and Jake Robinson highly praise the teaching style and professionalism of Mr. Natural, a French horn player turned trumpet teacher. Both reviewers describe him as a great teacher, genuinely nice, and professional. They commend his ability to make music education accessible and enjoyable, mentioning that he starts with interval training, which is usually reserved until later in music teaching. This approach, according to Jake Robinson, has helped him improve his understanding of music theory and guitar skills.
Personal Experience
Jake Robinson shares a personal anecdote about stumbling upon Mr. Natural's school and feeling fortunate to have done so. He describes Mr. Natural as a kind person with many great stories to share, and appreciates his ability to adapt his teaching style to the current pandemic by switching to video conference classes. Both reviewers express their gratitude for Mr. Natural's teaching, sense of humor, and friendship.
