Where talent develops and creativity thrives
At the New Jersey Workshop for the Arts, our mission is to enrich lives by providing opportunities to develop creative talents and encourage a greater appreciation of the arts through both instruction and performance. Founded by Executive Director Dr. Theodore K. Schlosberg in 1972, the NJWA has been dedicated to helping children, adults, and senior citizens explore and participate in the arts throughout the year with private and group instruction, performing ensembles, summer camps, and more.
Our faculty is composed of professional artists, musicians, and educators who nurture the talents of each individual student. Our instructors are passionate about sharing their knowledge and skills with others, and our students are encouraged to explore and express themselves through music, art, dance, and other creative disciplines.

At NJWA, we believe that everyone can make a difference. Whether you're a student, parent, or community member, there are many ways to get involved and make a positive impact. Our volunteers range from students to retired adults, and opportunities include marketing and fundraising, artistic opportunities like performance, apparel design, or actual visual arts, as well as assistance in the office, at community events, facilities work, and more.
Community Outreach
At NJWA, we believe that everyone deserves access to the arts. That's why we're committed to providing outreach programs and services to underserved communities and individuals with special needs. Some of our outreach programs include:
- Public Performance: We provide regular public performances in the Westfield area, occasionally extending beyond the county, state, and even country.
- Scholarships: We offer scholarships to deserving students and professionals, providing financial aid to reduce or fully subsidize tuition for private music lessons, ensembles, and classes, as well as occasional instrument purchases and rentals.
- Therapeutic Performance: We believe that music can have a therapeutic impact on individuals with special needs. Our therapeutic performance program provides a safe and supportive environment for individuals to express themselves through music.
